What are the Causes of Refugee crisis?/ Refugee Crisis

What is Refugee Crisis?

Refugee crisis is a burning question in the present scenario of the world. It refers to movements of large groups of displaced people, who could be either internally displaced persons, refugees or other migrants. It may also refer to facts in the country of origin or departure,to large problems whilst on the move or even after arrival in a safe country that involve large groups of displaced persons, asylum seekers or refugees.

Causes of Refugee Crisis

There are many causes behind the world refugee crisis.Firstly,Syria's war is the root cause of the global refugee crisis. It has been going on for eight years. There is no meaningful diplomacy to end it.At least 250,000 have died. The Syrians are trying to flee from their land.

The second cause is the war in Libya and other parts of the Middle East. Till now, the sea crossing from Libya to Italy had been the preferred route for all the migrants and refugees fleeing to Europe.A far shorter and less dangerous sea route exists from Turkey to Greece.

The third reason is the weather. It is natural for forbidden migration into Europe to peak during the summer months, when the sea crossings are safer. One reason there is a big scramble now is that a huge number of people are trying to make the journey before bad weather sets in.

Fourthly Germany has welcomed the refugees in its land.Huge numbers were already on the march when German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that Germany would offer temporary residency to all the refugees arriving there.

The shortcomings of the underfunded international aid effort is another important cause of the refugee crisis.

After all, the recent Rohingya killing in Myanmar has added a new dimension to an already heightened problem.

In imitation of  the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, in 2017,65.6 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide because of persecution, conflict, violence,or human rights violations alone.

Ways of Solving Refugee Crisis

Some steps can be taken to solve this crisis. They include: opening up safe routes to sanctuary for refugees is one important solution. That means allowing people to reunite with their relatives, and giving refugees visas so they don't have to spend their life savings and risk drowning to reach safety. It also means resetting all refugees who need it.

A vital solution for the most vulnerable refugees is resettlement. Including torture survivors and people with serious medical problems.World leaders also need to put saving lives first. No one should have to die crossing a border. And whether they travel by land or by sea. Most of people fleeing persecution or wars should be allowed to cross borders, with or without travel documents.
